4.24.7 : UFO Gatherings

Odd '07 co-incidence (?)

2007
March : 10th anniversary of Phoenix Lights
July : 60th anniversary of Roswell
October : 40th anniversary of Shag Harbour

I don't think there's much to the co-incidence that the above cited events all happened in a year ending in seven, but it is kind of weird.

After some checking, it turns the Tunguska Incident happened in 1908, so we can't add it to the weird anniversary trend, sadly.

Off to Roswell

I know a lot of people going to Roswell this year. Seems like not a week goes by where I don't find out someone else is going to Roswell. I considered going to NM for the big anniversary, but, to be honest, it just sounds like such a circus, I'm not sure I'd want to be there. You know I'd have to throttle the first clown shoe I saw wearing an alien mask or funky antennae. So, unless something radical happens, I shant be attending the big party in Roswell.

I do know of one BoA writer that said she is going and another one that is thinking about it, so maybe we can do some kind of on-site audio of the big weekend. We'll see, though, as the BoA staff is strangely shy about appearing on the audio program, so I'll have to twist some arms to get it done.

UFO CRC V

Speaking of big events, I saw the lineup for the UFO CRC V and it looks pretty damn good. Provided I am not totally destitute by then, I expect to be attending the festivities in Vegas come November. Sadly, I do not think the vixen I met from Canada at last year's event will be there this year.

Noteworthy for the UFO CRC V are Peter Robbins, who wasn't there this past year (much to my chagrin) and Terry Hansen (who was in attendance @ UFO CRC IV, but not speaking). I'll be interested in seeing their presentations and, perhaps more so, hanging out with Peter Robbins, if the chance comes up. Peter was, hands down, the coolest person I met @ the 1st X-Conference, back in '04, and one of the earliest supporters of BoA. I owe him a beer, at least. Terry, as well, was an early BoA : Audio guest and one of my favorite speakers @ the X-Conference, where I first discovered his outstanding book "Missing Times".

Mass Monster Mash

Also, I am hearing good things about this Mass Monster Mash weekend here in Massachusetts, coming in October. I missed last year's events because of family commitments, but I expect to be attending this year's festivities. I know of a few of the speakers and I'm always interested in seeing what the Massachusetts esoteric scene is like.

4.17.7 : Red Sox Pizza Party

Thank God for youtube. This was a hilarious moment during yesterday's Red Sox game that made me rewind quite a few times on my Tivo. Some ingenious bastard put it on youtube so I don't have to describe it to everyone when recounting it.

4.11.7 : Lost Thoughts (Ep. 3.15)

Sort of a half hearted "Lost Thoughts" this week, as I couldn't really get it together until this afternoon. I'll be back in the swing of things after this week's episode, which should be pretty revelatory and give me lots of reason to talk out of my ass and speculate.

That said, here's some stuff that I noticed or heard other people noticing ...

a> the bandage on Locke's hand @ the beginning of the episode. That's new. Likely from him punching his dad or something, but I suppose it could also be from being hooked up to an IV (ala Karl during the brainwashing). I figure we'll find out what happened to his hand in a future episode.

b> everyone keeps saying the Losties should move to Othersville now that the Others have left. That's not a bad idea, considering the amenities there and the security fence. But I'm afraid that's too obvious for the Losties, who almost never seem to do what makes sense.

c> I'm guessing that the Others either went to see Jacob or went to see whatever constitutes "the box". Ben said it was "somewhere on this Island", which sounded like it was outside of Othersville. I do not think they went back to Alcatraz, since they just left there due to Kate and Sawyer escaping. Also, there's a good chance that wherever they are going, that's where the kids are, because I didn't see any in Othersville.

d> Unless tonite's episode changes my mind, I still think Juliet is evil. She lied to Kate about the handcuffs and Smokey. Plus, she first said they shouldn't go back for Jack (at the beginning) then said they should go back for him (at the end). I don't think she's a spy, necessarily, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that way. Speaking of which, I found it strange that Jack woke up like hours after Kate did, presumably from the same gas attack. That makes me suspicious of Jack as well.

e> the Sawyer sub-plot where he is the new de facto leader doesn't make sense, since Jack is on his way back. So I'm guessing this will lead to some kind of schism within the Losties over leadership.

f> the flashes when Smokey examines Juliet. I think those will go a long way to explaining what Smokey is, once we find out more information. Sounded like it was taking pictures.

g> "Your baby is less wrinkly than last week" Great stuff.

4.4.7 : Joe Vee returns from exile island.

an artists rendering of Joe Vee
Still no "Lost Thoughts" this week. Mostly because I was rather unimpressed w. the Nikki / Paolo flashback episode and after having my mind warped by Locke's dad, it was all kind of a let down. I'm glad to see them getting back to the Others storyline this week. I'll try and do "Lost Thoughts" next week, scout's honor.

Since there were be no BoA : Audio this weekend, I am happy to report that BoA's Joe Vee will make an ultra-rare appearance on the page, on Saturday (4.7) with a new piece that fleshes out his obsession with Lynn Marzulli. It's an enlightening and hilarious column.

Vee also tells me that he's writing about Coast to Coast and Ufology and all his criticisms of both of them, which should also be pretty enjoyable. In typical Vee fashion, however, he keeps adding to each column and can't seem to stop writing them. Hopefully he will soon, though.

My computer is still broken, but we are scheduling BoA : Audio guests with reckless abandon and the taping of the final pod of episodes is going fairly well. I'm hopeful to have some funky music montages for y'all sometime the week of 4.16 as we build to the return of the series.

4.1.7 : Baseball Special on its way ...

Getting used to this laptop and new editing software is harder than I thought.

The switch from handheld mouse to just using my finger is enough to make me smash something.

We should have the episode available by Sunday afternoon @ the latest.
